I'm browsing the list of Yuletide requests to see if there's anything I can write a quick treat for, and holy shit there's a lot of Kings requests this year. Hopefully this means someone else has written some of them! I'd try, but the shadow of my abandoned epic alternate season 2 still hangs over me.

There are also a handful of requests for Hainish Cycle fic, and of course since this is Ursula K. LeGuin, most of the request details are things like "how do they draw on their commonalities, as people who have seen their societies upended?" and "It's intriguing how her own upbringing chafes against the ideals she helped create" and "my fav things about the series are the interesting alien ethnographies/anthropological bent"--wonderful prompts, every single one of them a story I want to read. But then I scrolled down a little more and saw this:

"WHY DID THEY NOT KISS.

MAKE THEM KISS."

--and I felt like I was home again.

This list is perhaps the single most perfect example of why I have a "fandom is my forever girl" tag. BEST HOBBY EVER.

guys I kind of love fandom right now? and yeah, I know I'm not anything special and anybody who posted a short-to-medium length fic about popular characters with humor and lots of sex would get a big response, but: it has been SUCH A BAD WEEKEND, including Thursday and Friday, and I only got about three and a half hours of sleep last night and that's after oversleeping, and I am having so many ridiculous personal problems on which I will not elaborate because I want to keep this post unlocked? And you're all making me feel goddamned amazing, every last anonymous kudos.

Replies: tonight! When I'm not imminently late for work. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Okay, Avengers fandom, I admit it. You have managed to genuinely surprise me in just over 48 hours. I thought I foresaw everything you were going to throw at me, but you win: I was not expecting Bruce/Tony/JARVIS.

I feel like being in love with fandom! So I have opened the "How to Train Your Dragon" category on ff.n (which is a site that more often than not causes great happiness) and preemptively tagged this post with my fandom-love tag. Observations and love follow under the cut; no non-love content allowed.

LOVE, and a lot of talk of Hiccup/au!sentient!Toothless, including sex, if that's not to your liking )

One of the delights of watching old TV--I've fallen victim to [personal profile] fan_eunice's recent Once A Thief enthusiasm--is getting to read old fanfic. Especially old badfic, which is not at all like badfic now. The things that make it bad...well, they're often the same, but because the stories are so much longer (the one I'm in the middle of right now is 173,000 words) and for the most part at least technically competent, the bad things often take a while to resurface. (Aside from the crippling reliance on telling instead of showing; that's pretty much endemic and on every page.)

so I'm reading this fic )

Today's installment of I LOVE FANDOM theater: kink memes have many horrors, but they also keep giving me things like this and compelling my forever love. I don't know which part is bringing me more joy--Erik is a battle-worn rabbit from an oppressive warren, or Unlike most rabbits, Erik is oddly adept at using tools. It's all pretty fantastic.

Sometimes I am so in love with fandom I can hardly stand it. This isn't a rec, exactly, although that fill has a couple great lines and it's fun and cute for what it is. It's just that "what it is" is someone deciding that what they want out of X-Men: First Class, at this precise moment, is a G-rated story where Charles fails at oatmeal and Erik teaches him how to make an omelet and then Charles fails at toast. So they wrote it, and it's also exactly what several other people want. It's so cheerful and completely unapologetic and adorable and omelets. This is what fandom is for! I mean, also porn, but primarily this. (I am also in love with the person who prompted this, that just made for an unwieldy link with all the other replies.)

Guys, you can't use "X3" as an emoticon on an X-Men kink meme! It's far too disorienting!

Completely unrelated edit: god, I love fandom SO MUCH sometimes.
