Oct. 21st, 2012 11:56 pmSo it seems my Doctor Who rewatch has expanded to include every single piece of Doctor Who-related television produced since 2005 (so DW, SJA, and Torchwood), except the stuff that pisses me off too much to rewatch and/or is crap. Which does eliminate an enormous fraction, but it's still a ridiculous thing to attempt. Obviously I am hardcore avoiding some shit, but also, it's just so NICE. I suspect this is going to be my forever fandom, the way I thought comics might be once. When this universe is being done well, it's just the best story that's ever been.
However, there have been some slight bumps in the road. The first bump being that I've started to overshoot my previously established boundaries about which episodes I shouldn't rewatch because they'll annoy me. I've started thinking, "oh, it's not THAT bad, it has some great parts, anyway I want to watch another [Donna/Martha/Amy] episode, I'll just skip ahead whenever something stupid happens!" Sometimes this works. Sometimes it does not, and I'm starting to remember just why it was that I had to wait so very long before I could even consider rewatching most of Ten's run. (And let's not discuss season six, let's just...not. Speaking of the desperately-needed cleansing powers of time...)
The other bump in the road was watching Children of Earth, which I never had. I'm 3/5 through, and it's just about the best writing (and in some cases acting) that show has ever had, and it RUINS things. Important things, and it's just so infuriating and I'm sure I'll finish it because it's so good, if it were about different characters who are not being ruined. And I still want more of their stupid faces, even if everything is wrong. I just can't resist the promise of new never-before-seen stupid face time. Especially if it's Gwen's face, I love her so muuuuuch. You know Torchwood did the one and only sci-fi magic pregnancy story on television that I've ever found completely unobjectionable? Entirely non-offensive, no violation or rape or gross undertones at all, and the woman doesn't get turned into a traumatized object. It was perfect. She's perfect. She should be mine :D
On the whole though, it's probably time to start on SJA now, before my joy gets too derailed. Mmmmm, SJA. Well actually, right now at this moment it's time to go to bed, because I have to educate children tomorrow. But after that!
