NERD RAGE

you guys, I just watched the first half of Watchmen, and my geek indignation is SO INTENSE right now. it is ALL WRONG. The characters are not so bad--Dan and Veidt are great, Rorschach and Manhattan are okay--but every single directing choice is WRONG WRONG WRONG. Watchmen is not supposed to be GLOSSY. The violence is not supposed to be glamorous and beautiful. The flashbacks are pretty unavoidable but they do NOT translate to the screen well at all, nor do the diary entries and voiceovers. Nor does a lot of the dialogue, for that matter.

I mean I'm gonna be finishing it, because my mom was pretty into it, but I am so disappointed, although not surprised because I pretty much knew this was going to happen, which is why I put it off so long. --the opening credits were pretty amazing, though, I'll give them that.

I had the exact same reaction to it. Everything moves so slowly and it's all weirdly glossy! Totally distracting and wrong and kind of boring. I know I'm totally in the fannish minority for hating that movie, but there it is. A lot of people really liked it! I wish I could, too.

Oh, God, that movie. I mean, it's almost worse the more directing choices you approve of--I definitely agree with you on the glossy and the fighting, but I mostly think the darkness works--because then the WRONG is just--AUGH.

It's like, you obviously had the competence to MAKE the good version of this movie, so why didn't you? Oh, that's right, because Zach "I didn't think Frank Miller was quite homophobic enough" Snyder was at the helm.

Tell me when you get to the sex scene. The sex scene is unbelievable.

I knooooooow! The opening credits were terrific. I don't mind the ending. The rest if just so wrong. The diary entries had me laughing in the cinema and I don't think they were meant to be hilarious.

Remember, someone else made the opening credits. That's why they rock.
