External hard drive is dead :( I've sent it in for data recovery, so there is a chance some of it will be coming back, but it's far from guaranteed. That's 80 GB of music, 60 GB of comics, a vast archive of usenet porn that is no longer available anywhere, and any vids I made or downloaded in the past year. Plus a ton of other things I can't remember offhand.

The music is going to be pretty impossible to reconstruct because so much of my favorite stuff was downloaded as individual, rare-ish tracks from other people. The comics could potentially be replaced, but would take like a year to download even if all that stuff was still available(oh Z-Cult, I miss you so much). The porn, of course, is gone forever.

I'm so sorry. FWIW, my hard drive failed recently and they were able to recover it - someone told me that it's very rare that the damage is so extensive that you can't recover the data.

I'm currently trying to recover data from an *internal* harddrive, and having limited luck, so I sympathize.
