brief update:

1. student teaching is mostly going well although i have one period who just will NOT do the reading and it's extremely frustrating...they mostly come from this totally garbage middle school where no one learns anything and they CERTAINLY don't have homework. so it's...challenging. the period that was ASTOUNDINGLY bad last week has been better this week, though, so that's nice. also for the periods that are reading the giver, we're FINALLY getting into the meat of the book after nine prefatory chapters, so i hope they'll be more into it from now on. it's only three weeks until the big baby-killing reveal so i'm VERY excited. (sorry for spoilers if you never read the giver but it did come out 26 years ago so like, where have you been)

2. i am VERY EXCITED for recent developments on the magicians, which i will NOT spoil, and i haven't actually watched any of this season yet bc i was sad about eliot being possessed but OH BOY i'm gonna remedy that tomorrow night. if you also know of the very momentous things that happen in the latest episode please feel free to comment with your own incoherent excitement!

And the sheer glory of Margo ready to fight like a wildcat, the mourning rituals of Fillory, the - the entire show was a wild ride but I wanted just that final moment of Q's small still hope rising up again after so much grief and trauma - hope.

i havent watched it yet bc the intensity of it all is making me anxious but i have been spoiled and it’s maybe the best thing that’s ever happened on tv

Actually paying for specific TV is a Thing I Rarely Do, because usually I am Patient, but--

Damn, how did they get me to go from "OMG what is this novel doing with its protagonist I do not like him, oh, there are sequels, well, no," to "FEELINGS, I FEEEL FEELINGS"?

...damn.

I have never read the novels and don’t intend to so ihni what they’re like but the show is just...amazing. needs all the warnings, but amazing. (idk if you’ve watched it yet but there’s some baaaad animal harm in s2 that no one ever mentions when warning for the rape and stuff.) but gosh. GOSH. what a treat this show is

So many warnings! All the warnings! And all the head-up-their-own-butt choices by cocky young people with too much power and time!

And I can rec you various Q/Eliot if you like.

I would love recs! I’ve only ever found two readable fics, there must be more.

I only have a couple, but they may have bookmarks/friends/etc. that will help. I started with Greywash @ AO3 but had to pause mid-series because the Brian!Q/Monster!Eliot was several miles too harsh to read right before bed. Really good, experimental prose, would not be out of place with the tone of the show at its darkest.

Giddygeek @ AO3 has done bodyswap: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17661581 -- a Fillorian holiday makes everything more complicated, in relatively light but still Fillorian ways.

Elsewhere I have seen https://archiveofourown.org/works/16989963 by mific recced, but have not read it yet. There's said to be some gold in this past Yuletide; I have yet to dig in.
