Sometimes I read a science thing on Wikipedia, and then I inevitably tumble down the Wikipedia rabbit hole following link after link, including links to articles where I understand maybe 1/4 of the introduction, because science. And also because science, sometimes I find wonderful things. For instance:

Currently, there is no known way for human civilization to successfully use the equivalent of the Earth's total absorbed solar energy without completely coating the surface with man-made structures, which is presently not feasible.

They have to add that last clause because they're scientists. And because someone is probably working on it.

Oh hey, I'd been meaning to talk to you about Avengers stuff, because I finally fell off that cliff, and a few nights ago I backread all your posts about it.

Avengers stuff! In bullet points:

- I have fallen wretchedly in love with the Hapless Queer Avengers series, which I am only able to read as a fantasy AU in which people as mentally ill and unstable as, well, you and me, are able to be full-time superheroes who also do things like be the figurehead of Stark Industries, or teach (Bruce is an academic? Now?) and so on. Part of the appeal is that the authors are simply a whole lot braver than I am. Arguably more misguided too, but definitely braver. And it is a ridiculous soap opera, but so is the comics canon. Also, I really really agree with their interpretation of Loki.

Yeah, I wish they hadn't included quite that much rape in his backstory (I am imagining some poor 15-year-old reading this and thinking "I'm not allowed to be as distressed as Loki is, I only had one relative sexually abuse me") but they do a very good job at a particular type of frantic flailing.

- I've been poking around Wikipedia a little, and have concluded that someone should write a research paper on the prevalence of dissociative identity disorder in Marvel superheroes and their associates, because it seems to be WAY, WAY, WAY higher than the normal population, or even the DCU population.

- Clint and Natasha: BFF4LIFE, and also the two characters least likely to be well written in fanfic.

- Clint/Coulson: about as interesting as watching paint dry while writing a coffeeshop AU.

- Tony Stark and Pepper Potts: the little black dress of threesome fic.

- Perfect comfort fic: any fic in which Darcy and/or Pepper gets to do ordinary administrative stuff in a superhero universe, and be extremely competent and indispensible at it; or any fic in which Tony Stark convinces the other Avengers to move in, and they all settle in and get used to living together and choosing billion dollar robotic curtains. OR BOTH. (Fortunately, I do not seem to be alone in this preference.)

- Fury: is he ever not written as evil?

- CAPSLOCK THOR: starting get old, but still pretty funny.

- I might possibly have made a kinkmeme request based on Mirah's 'La Familia' and Tony convincing the others to move in. Maybe.
