Okay, so, Teen Wolf. I AM SORRY. So I'm looking for fic, and I have two problems. The first one, of course, is the total dominance of a pairing that does very little for me, but such are the ways of fandom. And you know, I want to read fic, so I'm willing to suck it up and read Derek/Stiles...but the second problem is that all of it I've seen so far isn't the kind I'd want. The pairing dynamic fandom has settled on for them is very firm about who feels powerful and possessive and dominant, and who feels helpless (deliciously so, of course) and submissive.

And that's fine, I can get into that for a little while for porn, and have already done so, in fact. But Derek in canon is not such a fabulously interesting and complex character that fic where he acts and feels just like on the show, but with sex, can hold my interest emotionally. My takeaway desire from Teen Wolf, aside from the "Stiles' years of unrequited secret pining for Scott" fic that no one will ever write except possibly me, is that I want to see Derek vulnerable. Not just scared or suffering, because they're actually pretty generous with that, and I do appreciate it. But deeply vulnerable, and not in control. And not just in a "what are these feelings, is this a slightly different shade of violent possessiveness stirring within me? Can werewolves love?" way.

--and frankly, also, I want fic where Stiles gets to do something different too. Where he gets to feel in control and powerful. None of this need necessarily map to sexual positions, obviously, but...the whole potential of this dreadful show is in the ways you can do things to it. Fandom does not appear interested in doing anything to it except taking people's pants off. Which is a time-honored pursuit, I'm glad people are happy, but no one is fulfilling my emotional needs and by this I am displeased.

Obviously I would love recs, if anyone read all the way through that. Any m/m besides Derek/Stiles, or gen--especially h/c--or poly fic, or Derek/Stiles that's interesting and actually develops the relationship and is not just claiming and sniffing of butts. (Again, that stuff is fine, I've already enjoyed some. But I can find it on my own.) Mostly though I just needed to vomit stupid Teen Wolf feelings somewhere. I now have a "can a better show please rescue Stiles" tag on Tumblr, and seriously, he is the only good thing about this show but he's so great but it's so BAD. I hope I get over this soon (and can get this stupid fic written).

I feel as if I'm one of the few people who doesn't want Derek being completely dominant. This is a guy who's NOT at in control as he'd like people to think, and in many ways is broken and holding himself together with, oh 'ANGER.'

I want yes, poly fic - etc. Derek being able to be vulnerable with somebody. That would be lovely.

OH, there are a couple fics I can think of that aren't DEREK IS IN CONTROL' and they are slow burns, and much more believable than 'TAKE ME NOW, YOU WEREWOLF SEXFIEND.'

yes! exactly! he's a big taped-together pile of broken pieces, and I'm honestly really surprised that fandom's primary instinct wasn't "must re-shatter him!" I get the feeling that Teen Wolf fandom has much less overlap with My People than, say, Avengers fandom does. Partly an age thing, partly just coming up from different places, fannishly. They don't seem to share any of my basic impulses, like immediately smushing the tough guy and watching him slowly, painfully unsmush. (Although I have run into this in other, older fandoms, too. It might just be me.)

(Also I still don't--Derek/Stiles? I get it, but I don't get it. Fandom is starting to go places I cannot follow.)

I would very much like to read those fics! Slow burn is exactly what I want from this fandom; I want someone to add all the emotional complexity and development the show doesn't have.

I am really surprised that he is not the fandom's punching bag - as he is on the show - which, if he gets killed, and it's REDEMPTIVE, or TO SAVE EVERYONE, I am going to be ticked off. I am way more interested in his arc to figuring out how to LIVE a somewhat functional life, and build this little pack.

Because, I think people are so busy thinking 'WEREWOLF, BIG GUY, DOMINANT, SEX' that they are missing a huge component of the character, which is him being broken, and YET, having the determination to make sure these kids don't get killed. He has stuck around and tried to help Scott and saves him a LOT, even though Scott fights him - to Derek, Pack is family, and I would like to see him being able to find that again.

And secondly, as you say, unmushing. That. GUH. CANDY to me. That careful, slow, fragile process is so amazing to watch. I want THAT. Derek has trust issues that would fund many psychiatrist's bank accounts for DECADES. Deal with some of THAT, fandom. Then talk about knotting, FFS.

let me vomit my own feeling in turn if you please - I'm not even into Derek at all, but if I was it would be like you say, because of the interesting potential of his vulnerability, his past with Kate, his being an orphan, his *having to be* an alpha even though he might not really want to, etc.

And yes, Stiles is my favorite (your tag is a thing of beauty), and I'm more interested in having him confident, in Stiles/Scott and how that interferes with Scott/Allison and Stiles' crush on Lydia, etc.

I haven't started reading fic at all but I've stated writing porn and encouraging porn to get written, and it's Stiles/Danny/Jackson, because if I'm going to do the whole self-indulgent porn route, that's what comes to mind first. :D

This fandom has such a great canon for all sorts of poly situations, ugh, I hope we see more and more. :D

I am really into Stiles/Scott, and trying to write it! I probably won't finish it, but we'll see. Mostly I ship Stiles/his feelings, because, you know, Scott is kind of a nothing. And that sounds like a GREAT threesome for porn, gosh. I surely would read that.

YES, Kate/Derek, I really want that. I will go read that immediately. That was one of the best non-Stiles moments for me in S1, when she threatened to rape him (again, probably, given how old he must have been the first time) and he just cracked. Any other fandom would have run with that!
