oh my god why is AviSynth SO FUCKING AWFUL. I just want to pull some clips from an .mkv file for a stupid adorable comedy vid that shouldn't take more than a few days but NO. NO I CAN'T DO THAT. The AMV app was supposed to give me some things that it blatantly did not, the internet won't tell me how to get those things, and my brain can't parse most of the sentences anyone uses to talk about this anyway. I don't want to make a vid from a 700mb .avi, that will look like crap. But apparently we cannot have nice things.

I wish I could help, but I've given up on ever learning how to use AviSynth. I'm still clinging to VirtualDub for all of my clipping purposes. :-/

Hmm. I know that I have a version of VirtualDub on my computer that lets me open .mkv files.

Is it the FFVideoSource plugin that you need? That's what I use to load mkvs into VirtualDub. It's in this zip if you want it, you just need to put the files into the Avisynth plugins folder: http://fan.albatroi.net/ffms2.zip

/here via network, I have spent a LOT of time raging at mkv files.

You're welcome! I often think the internet doesn't want anyone to solve their vidding problems ever.

Dude, FATE. I just looked this up this morning on account of I need to recut my VVC premieres with .mkv files so it won't look crappy on the big screen.

Anyhoo, https://vidtech.info/SourceHandling/AvisynthImportHDFootage

That should make it possible for you. :)
