Reading Fun Home and Are You My Mother in about four sittings, in the space of 24 hours: awesome/terrible feelings rollercoaster, not even remotely conducive to writing all this porn. I do now kind of want to write many sex scenes where everything goes horribly wrong, though. And there are sudden unexpected tears and apologies and frantic hugging.

I just got an autographed hard copy of Mother new, altho the Famous Indie Bookstore where I got it didn't have Fun Home, despite assuring me they had 3 copies in stock and searching everywhere (graphic novels, autobiography, humour, Gay & Lesbian.....). sigh.

Fun Home is so awesome, but whenever I try to describe it to anyone it sounds so pretentious. But it really isn't.

Sometimes 'pretentious' is like 'elitist', a label people stick on things that don't stick to their place in the middle of the road. Fun Home is not middle of the road. It does not have the same Flesch-Kinkaid reading level (not that that actually means shit in terms of good writing) as Congress. But that doesn't mean Bechdel's putting on airs.

I agree! There certainly are pretentious books, but this is not one of them. Perhaps my descriptive skills are to blame...
