I hate when the perfectly good AMTDI/sex pollen rape-recovery fic I'm reading suddenly leaps off the rails and turns into shipfic. There are lots of ways to write AMTDI/sex pollen, and some of them can be good ways to start a fictional relationship depending how you handle the dubcon aspect. But if you decide to write it as flat out noncon, and then write the next 10,000+ words as gen fic about recovering from trauma and whether they can ever repair their friendships, and character A is recoiling from characters B, C, and D...I'm not going to suddenly get on the A/B true love and consensual sex train, okay? That is not an appropriate sudden left turn to take, and it totally creeped me out. Happily it was also the last update ever posted as of a month ago, so I don't have to keep reading out of a grim need to know how badly things go. And everything up to that point did hit my buttons nicely.
