I'm gonna have to go see The Avengers, aren't I? I've been avoiding and resenting it because of Reasons (also because non-matinee tickets around here are $13 after parking and fuck that), but Tumblr is making it clear to me that I have a limited window before all the good moments are made into gifs. And I'm pretty much only in it for the moments; I expect the thing as a whole to annoy me. Do I need to see Thor first? I've acquired it but the whole idea sort of bored me and I never got around to actually watching it.

Also I need to see the Pirates! movie as that is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. But that's not a chore, that will be my reward for surviving Sunday.

Meanwhile, I'm really for real sick today, such that I couldn't even talk when I woke up. And I have to work from 9-11 as a greeter for a batch of interviewees. Then all will be silence and I will mime my way through the not-dress rehearsal tonight and drink this entire box of gross-tasting sore throat tea. Sudafed doesn't seem to be working to control the flood of phlegm so I just have to hold off the sore throat until Monday, and then I can be horrifically sick all I please. At least until Wednesday when I have to go back to work.

thor is pretty good. it passes bechdel. (the two lady scientists talk science! who would have thought? there's also a lady warrior who kicks ass but doesn't really talk to other ladies.) it's sort of weird because you have all the over the top asgard stuff and then the new mexico stuff almost seems like a different movie, but then they interact for a big action bit. i think the "let's go shakespeare on it" approach worked well, but that's just me.

having not seen avengers yet i don't know if thor is 100% needed, but i know loki is the villain for avengers and his backstory is in thor.

I... would say that Thor helps, but isn't strictly necessary. If you feel like it wouldn't make you happy, don't do it. Avengers has less Bechdel pass than Thor, but does have some awesome female characters who just don't get to talk to each other, and I kind of felt like the whole thing was more of a Black Widow movie than anything else, though it's obviously an ensemble and YMMV.

There are definitely many many Moments, so that might make up for annoyance? I'm sorry you don't feel good about going to see it.

Can you add a mucolytic (like guaiphenisin or bromhexidine) to the brew? When I have a cold it all goes down the back in a big gross clump and a mucolytic really thins it out.
