and a completely separate question

how do you do wedding registries? like, if you buy something, does it ship to them immediately, or not until closer to the wedding date? is it socially acceptable to buy something months in advance of the wedding, if they've sent everyone the link to the registry? I would like to call dibs on one of the items that costs about $25, before the only things left are way too expensive or kind of embarrassingly cheap.

--my sister is getting married in July, IDK if I've mentioned this? it's massively weird but I get a trip to New York out of it, plus her fiance seems pretty great. But if she has kids before me I will become deeply and permanently bitter.

(also thinking about the wedding is making me FREAK OUT about clothing and shoes, as in 1.) what will I wear that's appropriate and that I can actually obtain and will fit me, and 2.) what shoes will I wear that won't HURT, and also 3.) what the fuck happened to that necklace I bought specially to go with my nice dress, HOW CAN A NECKLACE JUST VANISH, it never even left the fucking HOUSE.)

UNRELATED, to avoid even more spam: I finished Community! Well, I skipped about four episodes, for my own safety, but basically I'm all caught up and can now proceed to reading all the fanfic and watching all the vids. Recs are welcome! I think after this I will finish my Cowboy Bebop rewatch--which is a thing I was doing, it's been pretty great--and then maybe get back to Leverage, which I abandoned mid-episode toward the end of season 1 due to embarrassment squick, and somehow never picked back up even though it was making me so blindingly beamingly happy. Or maybe Parks and Rec, I do hunger for more sitcoms.

when you buy something off of a wedding registry it usually ships right away. it's alright if a wedding gift arrives way ahead of time though because the couple is supposed to write thank you notes for them and it's better to get a few things along and along than to try to remember which of the fourteen things that arrived today came from who. at least that's how my family has always handled it.

where I come from, you can send the wedding gift on early but also there's a gifts table at the wedding, so what I've usually done is bought the thing and then taken it with me to the wedding. Not so practical though if you're travelling?

re: Community recs: here are some Community fics I liked and here is my Community tag on DW, with more recs and things. And whatever Community fanworks I've made.

aw, that's really sweet, thank you! yeah, Even the Stars Hide Away . . . I think it's not my most polished piece of fic, but it does have a lot of my FEELS in it, like, a lot of myself in it. :) So hearing that you (over)identify with it makes me feel really happy and justified and understood. :) <3
