I have a Mac now! I mean, in addition, I could never actually switch. But since my parents work at a university that periodically buys them new computers, my mom suddenly had a superfluous three-year-old Macbook, and now it is mine. I don't really know what I'm going to do with it, since I already have a netbook (my darling little Toshiba) and I never need to do anything more powerful than netbook-level when traveling, but I'll figure something out. If it were a PC that had magically dropped into my lap, I'd make it my royal taster and use it to test-download anything suspicious that I wanted to DL on my desktop, because that is totally a legitimate reason to keep an entire extra computer around.

Anyway: suggestions for anything awesome and/or useful that can only be done with a (not especially powerful) Mac are welcome. Oh, can OS X be made compatible with way earlier programs? Hunting down and replaying all the extremely obscure early-nineties Mac-only games of my childhood would be both awesome AND useful. To me.

I'm pretty sure none of the Intel Macs can run a version of OS X old enough that it still had Classic mode. And Classic only gave you OS 9, which itself was too new to run a lot of those early 90s games. There may be other things that exist - maybe Mini vMac would suit your purposes?

Scrivener! (Though there's a Windows version in beta, to be fair).

GarageBand! If I suddenly had a recent Mac, I would definitely spend a lot of time playing with GarageBand.

Depends on how old you're talking about. Rosetta allows all OS X Macs except those running Lion to do PowerPC stuff. For anything older than that, you'd probably need an emulator.

Wheee Mac! I really love iPhoto for photo management, and you'll never go back to another IM program after Adium. Alfred is a really awesome application launcher. Also I hear Final Cut is awesome for movie stuff and vidding, but I have no personal experience with this.
