Captain America problems
WHY is it so easy for me to write something set in the sixties, but trying to write a story set in the thirties makes my brain utterly flip out? I've been reading up about queer life in NYC in the period, thanks to some very helpful book recs, and they have been helpful, it's just that they also made me realize how incredibly little I know about life in that period. Also, the movie changing Steve to come from Brooklyn (instead of the Lower East Side--they did this, right, I wasn't imagining things?) makes things somewhat more difficult since all the queer-specific stuff is 95% about Manhattan. But mostly it's that I know so little about school, or jobs, or money, or gender relations even which I thought I knew fairly well but apparently not. HISTORY IS HARD :(
