when are you gonna come home ;_;

You know that phase you get into, in new fandoms (or in my case in all fandoms, always), where every song you hear seems to apply to your favorite pairing or character or something? Other people do this, right? Whether or not the song is actually remotely appropriate for said pairing/characters--there have been two separate fandoms where I heard "Right Here Waiting" on the radio and burst into tears, and that song isn't appropriate to anything. At this point in my life I think I just automatically search for some fandom connection to every song I hear, if only at the back of my mind; it's very sad really.

Anyway the point is, right now the first thing my brain flips to when doing that is X-Men: First Class, to see if it can latch onto anything there before digging through older or less ridiculously emotional possibilities. And yesterday I turned on the car and remembered I'd put an Indigo Girls CD in there the other day, and "Moment of Forgiveness" started playing, and I was singing along and--suffice it to say, I now believe with all my heart that XMFC!Charles Xavier loves the Indigo Girls, timeline be damned, and that he listens to this song and cries--just a little bit--and maybe imagines Erik listening to it too and shedding a single tear, since of course he wouldn't actually cry. But he would want to, if he listened to the Indigo Girls. Charles is sure of this.

I'm currently convinced that EVERY ASSEMBLAGE 23 SONG EVER is about Steve or Tony or Steve/Tony or Steve&Tony. And I may be plotting a Civil War vid to Disappoint. Which, y'know, is actually a song from a son to his father who committed suicide BUT IT'S TOTALLY TONY TALKING TO DEAD!STEVE! And Regret is Tony wallowing in the hideous things he did before Vietnam/Afghanistan/random terrorists/what's his backstory this week?

It's reminiscent of when I fall in love with somebody, back when I used to fall in love. Love songs suddenly make sense! They're all ABOUT ME!

I think I am the only person on my flist who doesn't do this...and even I did it once!

(But I agree that XMFC Charles would love the Indigo Girls!)

I do the same thing. And then there's the music which doesn't match any characters I know yet, but which hits a fandom sweet spot anyway, e.g. REM's 'Try Not To Breathe' and the Magnetic Fields' 'I Thought You Were My Boyfriend'. Both of those songs are, well, if they were characters, they would be characters about whom I would read ALL THE FIC.

While we're talking about Indigo Girls songs that make people cry, though, what are your thoughts on 'Love Will Come To You'?
