....oh, fuck me, I do have a Captain America fic idea. (Actually I have two, but only one involves something happening besides "people have feelings" so it's the only one I'm counting.) Not going to write it, way too much to be doing already and writing period stuff always fills me with anxiety anyway. But I thought my brain was not going to do this to me!!

12:54 AM -- NOT WRITING IT, not writing it, NOT writing it...goddammit. Anybody know any good books about queer life in 1930s/40s NYC? Much of the idea I'm having is set pre-movie so war-specific stuff isn't necessary (though I'm sure I could put that to good use too). I'm just trying to get a feel for the frame(s) of reference I'd be dealing with. (This idea is basically "what if Bucky was gay, and then also feelings." But that last part is in everything I write.)

I am mostly just sympathizing with you, also watching comments for resources, also why is everything set in NYC and not LA? There was a great book called "Gay LA" which had tons of information that I want to put in a fic that is not cooperating. (Singin' in the Rain, Don and Cosmo and also Kathy and a thinly veiled Eleanor Powell. Because nobody else is going to write it, apparently.)

Yes, actually, I have the exact resource you need - Gay New York: Gender, Urban Culture, and the Making of the Gay Male World, 1890-1940 by George Chauncey.

It's generally a really good book - but especially so if you want to write something from that era. :)
