it's been almost a month since the surgery and my mom is doing all right, although she's still not fully recovered. she's had a couple very scary incidents of confusion, but her doctor said that was probably due to the anti-seizure medication, which she's currently tapering off of. unfortunately she and my dad can't go back to new york as soon as they planned because the spinal fluid isn't draining fast enough--nothing too dangerous, but they were hoping it would be gone by now, so the doctor said to do another CT scan in three weeks and if it's still not gone they're going to put in a drain. this is rough on my mom because she has to spend as much time as possible lying flat or almost flat on her back, and she's pretty bored, as well as still being more frail and tired than usual. it sucks because they had tickets to see the new sexy Oklahoma on broadway but they're gonna have to miss it. still, hopefully all will be well by the end of this month and we won't need the drain.

i went to a job interview a couple days ago and did very badly, which is unfortunate because it was a good school, but at least i have a better idea of how to handle the next one. if i get another interview, which is not at all certain. i'm still torn about working full-time but 1.) health insurance would be nice, and 2.) it really would be better to be an official part of a school, with keys to the bathroom and able to go in the teacher's entrance without waiting for someone to open the door for me, and most importantly i could go to professional development, which i need to keep my credential active. the alternative if none of these positions pans out is a four-day-a-week tutoring position from november to april, which i feel more confident i can do but would make me basically a guest in the school and of course doesn't come with insurance, and is also significantly less money (not that being a teaching assistant makes much at all, but it makes more than $13,000). i don't really have to worry about the money right now but still.
