Today started out really bad--I woke up around 2 am and couldn't get back to sleep for an hour, because due to the broken A/C I've been sleeping downstairs on my old childhood twin bed, now serving as a couch-thing in my mom's study, and it wasn't even a very good mattress when it wasn't twenty years old, plus the cat takes up ALL THE SPACE as soon as I fall asleep--and I was predictably miserable in the morning. But then I went to work and our supervisor was out, and we finished everything we'd been working on by two o'clock and when we asked one of the other people in charge for more to do, she didn't know where any of it was, so she sent us home with pay for the full day. And I was really excited because now I would have time to clean the kitchen! And make an appointment! Oh, adulthood.

Also there was a ton of rain and the temperature dropped like fifteen degrees, so with the window and door open up here it's not even horrible. And now I can fully enjoy choir tonight without the creeping awareness that it's devouring my only hours of freedom and alone time all day long. And maybe I will even make some time in the next three hours to do a little vidding. In short, hooray, Tuesday!

so someone on Tumblr reblogged this awesome entry from The SCP Foundation, which I had never seen before. And I got all excited about reading all the entries, and omg what an awesome collaborative fiction project, and I love this kind of science fiction/horror.

Okay, so maybe the humanoid objects do tend to fall into deeply sexist cliches and replicate some really gross patterns--the list of "good" humanoid entries, as examples for people who want to write their own without lapsing into writing a superhero, feature an indestructible (and male) berserker killing machine, a literal Cassandra whose powers are passive and will kill her if she's not kept locked up, another female whose powers are completely internal (meaning she's still "an attractive, nice female") and grew increasingly depressed by being locked up until she tried to escape and was captured and brainwashed, a guy whose otherwise not very horror-like powers are okay "because he's not a cute girl," and basically that list and the other humanoid entries I've seen just make me think, "really guys, this is as far as your imagination extends, REALLY?"...but whatever, there's still all the inanimate objects and animals, right?

And then I ran across trigger warning for rape )
