A QUANDARY

So, to soothe my wrath at the movie, I started rereading Watchmen, and I just finished and I think, for the first time ever, I am ready to cope with Watchmen fanfic. I kind of even want it. The problem is, I'm SO not in a mental space where I can deal with a non-happy ending--I haven't been for like a year, actually, and it shows no signs of letting up. But of course, I greatly fear the concept of "Watchmen fluff" and wish to avoid it AT ALL COSTS. So...is there anything? I'm totally okay with a story taking 500,000 words to GET to the happy ending, because I really can't imagine what one would have to do to earn it with this source, but I need it. At the very least, I need a sliver of hope. Total bleakness is just not an option for me right now. Like, ambiguous endings are okay as long as it's not a "there is no hope and nobody can ever really be happy and it's too late :( forever :(" ending.

Also, I need it to be in character. ...there really isn't anything, is there.

Well, I will post this despite the overwhelming odds, and hope that y'all can ferret something up for me. Any character/pairing/gen is cool. No AUs, though.
