HERE IS A LIST OF ST:TOS EPISODES WHAT I HAVE WATCHED SO FAR
(also movies 2-4, in a row, because I HAD TO)
The Naked Time
Charlie X
The Enemy Within
The Conscience of the King
The Menagerie
Balance of Terror
Shore Leave
Tomorrow is Yesterday
Space Seed
This Side of Paradise
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever
Amok Time
Mirror, Mirror
The Trouble with Tribbles
A Piece of the Action
Patterns of Force
Bread and Circuses
The Tholian Web
The Empath
obviously I haven't been trying to watch in order because LOL CONTINUITY WHAT but i have been more or less trying to stay vaguely linear, just to see how the show evolves. with detours for pon farr and dress-up episodes, of course.
THOUGHTS SO FAR:
1. oh my god i love everyone and everything :DDDDDDD
2. i am a little surprised at how overwhelming the spock/mccoy is. i mean i went in expecting kirk and spock to be soulbonded, and i wasn't disappointed, but...WOW. there's been at least one moment where i feel i can sincerely, unironically argue that the directing, music, and acting cues DEMANDED spock kiss mccoy and the scene just sort of fell flat without it. plus all the usual joy of bickering, of course. and how amused and delighted kirk is whenever they snipe at each other, because YAY HIS BFFS ARE GETTING ALONG.
3. I AM SO ASHAMED OF HOW MUCH I WANT TO HAVE SPACE SEX WITH JAMES T. KIRK
3a. except obviously not ashamed at all, apparently
4. i think all the episodes with actual science fiction in them are just an excuse for the episodes where shatner and nimoy get to play dress-up with silly costumes and accents.
5. GODDAMN, UHURA. even with all the horrible sexism and fail and general sixtiesness and self-congratulatory tokenism, she is still so awesome it makes my computer throb when she's onscreen.
5a. no seriously omg she is so--i love how in the mirror episode, she didn't just get to be bad-ass and clever and wield a knife and get in a fight, she also did important shit with her regular job. RADIO OPERATORS ARE FUCKING IMPORTANT, Y'ALL. RESPECT.
6. man, i thought george takei was sexy now. fucking A i would hit sulu like a motherfucking screen door. especially if he is wielding some kind of weaponry at the time, which he seems to do often.
7. i have my first full-blown proper fic idea, and it is kirk/spock, and porn, and i cannot write it because i know NOTHING of canon, but it's very compelling and i am enjoying having it.
8. mccoy is a goddamn pimp. i feel that this aspect of the show was not advertised NEARLY heavily enough. dude gets all the ladies AND QUITE RIGHT.
9. and speaking of the ladies--even with all the horrifying sexism, women are IMPORTANT with surprising frequency. their choices and actions are central and the plot hinges on it. they are incredibly sexist and often insulting choices and actions, but it's a complete 180 from the polite invisibility we have in most everything these days.
10. the movies were so unbelievably HEARTWRENCHING and surprisingly good and OH MY GOD SPACE WHALES. IN SPACE. OMG and the scene in the third movie where Sarek angrily attacks Kirk for not fulfilling his duties as Spock's husband, and Kirk is confused and then horrified and then it's SO SAD and omg. I CANNOT EVEN EXPRESS. all my past twelve years in slash fandom feel so INSIGNIFICANT in the face of this show.
