MORE SARAH JANE WHEEEEEE

GOD HOW DOES SARAH STAY SO DAMN AWESOME. She's just so--so--kickass and smart and competent and unapologetically strange. And something about having the Adventure Leader be a woman really highlights the weirdness of the tropes sometimes, of the way she keeps bringing the kids into danger--yes, because it's children's TV and they're the costars and it's an adventure fantasy, but it's also just so SARAH. They're her *partners*--kids, yes, and she feels responsible for them, and it's not that she's treating them like adults, just--like partners. Because that makes perfect sense to her. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

and omg, her DELIGHT when Bea(?) started talking about Sontarans--just, joy suffusing all through her, and excitement and happiness and--I MUST GO WATCH AGAIN. oh oh oh, SARAH. and Sontarans! omg! like potatoes! GLEEEEEEE. and oh how I LOVE the suggestion that Bea has this whole Sarah-type past with lots of aliens and adventures, it's so sweet and wonderful.

Clyde continues to WIN MY HEART. this is totally his new thing! He is ALL ABOUT being Sarah Jane's manly alien-hunting sidekick! And oh, he just adores Luke, it's so--obvious and SWEET, and and and. I LOVE HEEEEM. also I love Luke! who is still sort of wandering around bumping into things, kitten-like. I suspect we will see more claws next week YAY.

Maria--I wish they'd spend less time on the family drama, because it's so predictable and, well, done. I mean, I'm not expecting amazing feats of innovation, I know, but I feel like they should either make the family stuff more interesting and different, or spend less of her time on it. Because she just--opens up when she's around the other three, especially Sarah. They have such awesome chemistry, and I love how Sarah immediately gets that Maria wants time alone with her. And not to talk either, but to be INVESTIGATIN STUFF. because Sarah Jane knows that is the best cure for a girl's troubles!

Also, quoting [livejournal.com profile] calapine's review: "Mr Smith plays that music to announce his presence. It is not merely soundtrack. I have decided this is truth." YES INDEED.

okay, favorite bits, short version: Clyde being adorably protective of Luke, "he got nabbed by a nun!", Luke taking the seemingly-crazy old lady completely seriously, Sarah blossoming with joy at the Sontarans mention, Maria showing up in the attic THE SADDEST GIRL IN THE WORLD being really really blatant about her need for Sarah Jane Adventures, Sarah's wallet of ten million fake IDs and the fact that she actually put on a noticeably different persona using one, the way the Head Evil Nun pronounced "gorgon" as GORG-ON because it's an alien race zomgggg....I believe that mostly covers it!

I continue to have Feminist Problems--rather a lot with this episode actually--but I'm going to wait, hmm, next week and then two more stories(so I guess 5 more weeks) to see what patterns show up, and then I will probably do a big comprehensive List of Grievances. I WILL BE SO POPULAR, YES.

--also, heh, Doctor Who has made me so GRIM, it didn't even occur to me until Maria's dad got statued that, uh, this is CHILDREN'S TV and people are not gruesomely killed quite so freely unless it's reversible. I mean, by DW standards that's a very low death count!
