i did a chest harness! a really, really basic one with the knots in front--idk how anybody can do the knots in the back on themselves, but i guess if you're flexible it's possible. i am not, alas, flexible. but yeah it's very simple, just a band below and then above the breasts and a stem in the middle, and it feels SO GOOD. i can feel it when i breathe, it's not too tight at all but i can absolutely feel it and it's incredible. i think i'm going to do this every day just to sit in it.

one unfortunate thing is that the standard length of rope for shibari is 30 feet, so all my ropes are either 30' or 15' and it's becoming very clear that this was determined based on skinny people. the harness is supposed to be a one rope tie and i had to add one of my 15' ropes about 3/4 of the way through, which means i have a long dangly bit hanging off after finishing it. this has happened to me before as well, and it's pretty disheartening. it's possible to buy rope in like, a 300' spool and then cut it to length, but i have no practical way of accurately measuring those lengths and also it just sucks to be reminded that I Don't Fit. it doesn't even reflect the reality of the community, i've seen so many fat people in rope, it's just the way everyone does it. tbf this wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue with a larger, more full body tie or a suspension; in practice with a partner you wouldn't just do one simple chest harness and then stop. so it's not a huge deal, really. and it does let me do the extremely fun thing of pulling on the leftover rope and feeling the tug as if someone were dragging me somewhere, which is a delight.

(to clarify, if you're not familiar with shibari, you tie with the rope doubled up, so 30' is really 15', and so forth.)
