I have not finished the book yet, but halfway through book 4, Marius shows no sign of ever becoming less of a giant embarrassing dork.

That is very good to hear, I am reassured. I've just finished the chapter where he becomes infatuated with Cosette (I assume) and he is a hilarious ball of fail the whole time. I don't want him to ever change :D
